The joys of Japan’s depachikas!

The first time I lived in Japan in 2011, I was absolutely floored the first time I visited a depachika, or department store food hall. Upscale department stores like Takashimaya, Isetan and Sogo will have at least two floors of gourmet foods and grocery stores selling everything from artisan tofu and pickles to upscale French pastries; the selection and sheer amount of food is mind-boggling! Now cruising depachikas is a regular occurrence for me; I’m partial to the Yokohama Takashimaya. Here are some recent finds from this weekend:
